Is Your A/C Acting Up?

Welcome to CL Auto Repair in Houston, TX! As car owners, we all know the importance of a fully functional air conditioning system during those scorching summer days. However, when your A/C starts acting up, it can be frustrating and uncomfortable. In this blog post, we will delve into the components of your auto A/C system and their functions to help you better understand how your vehicle's cooling system works.

           Your A/C’s Components

Compressor: The compressor is often referred to as the heart of the A/C system. Its main function is to compress and circulate refrigerant gas, which is vital for removing heat from inside your car. When you turn on your A/C, the compressor pressurizes the refrigerant gas and sends it to the condenser.

Condenser: The condenser plays a crucial role in dissipating heat from the high-pressure refrigerant gas coming from the compressor. It transforms the gas into a liquid form by releasing heat into the surrounding air. Essentially, it cools down the refrigerant so that it can continue its journey through the A/C system.

Evaporator: Once the refrigerant has been cooled down in the condenser, it moves on to the evaporator. This component absorbs heat from inside your vehicle, making it cooler and more comfortable for you as a driver or passenger. The evaporator is typically located behind your dashboard and helps cool down hot air before circulating it back into the cabin.

Expansion Valve: The expansion valve regulates the flow of refrigerant into the evaporator based on temperature and pressure levels within the system. By controlling how much refrigerant enters this component, it ensures that your A/C operates efficiently and effectively at all times.

Refrigerant: Refrigerant is a key player in keeping your car cool during hot weather. It undergoes changes in pressure and temperature throughout different parts of the A/C system to absorb heat inside your vehicle and release it outside. Over time, refrigerant levels may decrease due to leaks or wear and tear, leading to decreased cooling performance.

Understanding how each component of your auto A/C system works can provide valuable insight into diagnosing issues with your cooling system and ensuring timely repairs when needed.

           Recognize the Signs

Most people have experienced a car with an unbalanced wheel at some point. You might not have known what it was at the time, but you definitely felt it. The ride is bumpy and uncomfortable, and it feels like the car is shaking. You might have even thought there was something wrong with the suspension. Unbalanced wheels are a common problem, and they're usually easy to fix. In this blog post, we'll explain what causes unbalanced wheels and how our expert team at CL Auto Repair in Houston, TX, can help.

           The Cause

The main cause of unbalanced wheels is uneven tire wear. This can be caused by driving on uneven roads, hitting potholes, or even just normal wear and tear. When the tread on your tires is uneven, it throws off the balance of the wheel. The easiest way to fix this problem is to get your tires rotated. This will even out the wear and help balance the wheels.

If your tires are already evenly worn, then you might have a bigger problem. One of the wheels might be bent or out of round. This can happen if you hit a big pothole or curb too hard. If this is the case, you'll need to take your car to a mechanic or tire shop to have the wheel repaired or replaced. Once you get a new wheel, you'll also need to get your tires balanced.

           We Can Fix the Problem

If your car has an unbalanced wheel, it will feel like the ride is bumpy and uncomfortable. The best way to fix this problem is to bring your car into CL Auto Repair to get your tires rotated. If your tires are already evenly worn, then you might have a bigger problem, like a bent or out-of-round wheel. In this case, you'll need to have the wheel repaired or replaced before getting your tires balanced again. Contact us today at

Big changes are coming to Texas vehicle inspections starting January 1, 2025. At CL Auto Repair, we want our Houston customers to understand how these updates, driven by House Bill 3297, will impact your annual vehicle inspection and registration process. Whether you’re in Harris County or beyond, here’s a breakdown of everything you need to know.

           What’s Changing in 2025?

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has announced significant updates to the Vehicle Safety Inspection Program for non-commercial vehicles:

           1. Elimination of Annual Safety Inspections

Starting January 1, 2025, non-commercial vehicles will no longer require a safety inspection before registration.

This change simplifies the registration process for most Texas drivers.

           2. New Inspection Program Replacement Fee

To offset revenue previously generated by inspections, vehicle owners will now pay a $7.50 replacement fee during registration.

For new vehicles (current or preceding model year), an initial fee of $16.75 will apply for two years of registration.

           3. Emissions Testing Still Required in Certain Counties

Emissions testing will continue to be mandatory in emissions counties, including Harris County and other major metropolitan areas.

Bexar County will join the list of emissions counties in 2026.

           4. Commercial Vehicles Are Exempt

Commercial vehicles will still need to pass annual safety inspections but are exempt from the replacement fee.

How Do These Changes Affect Houston Drivers?

If your vehicle is registered in an emissions county, such as Harris County, emissions testing will remain a requirement. At CL Auto Repair, we can handle your emissions test with ease, ensuring your vehicle meets state standards. For non-commercial vehicles, the elimination of safety inspections shifts responsibility to owners to ensure their vehicles are safe to drive.

Why Regular Maintenance Is More Important Than Ever

Even though safety inspections will no longer be required, proper vehicle maintenance is critical to keep your car safe and reliable. At CL Auto Repair, we recommend routine checks for:

            Lights:

Ensure headlights, taillights, and turn signals are functioning.
